Wooden churches

The wooden Greek Catholic church of St. Paraskeva, 1705, NKP 

    Village of Dobroslava originated in the valley, which received during WWII the name „Death valley“. Many hardest fights took place here. Even today, in the 21st century it is witnessed in this area by the disposed ammunition from those days.
    The wooden church in this village was built at the beginning of the 18th century, in 1705. A point of interest of the wooden church of St. Paraskeva in Dobroslava is the fact that it was built on the ground plan of a Greek cross. It is the only church in Slovakia built in this way. The original church had only one nave.
    Because of its shape it has five parts, five spaces, but still holds classis division: narthex – nave - sanctuary. It is built on a stone foundation. It is equipped with three towers and five crosses. The tower roofs have the shape of low cut pyramid adorned with onion domes. In the main tower is one bell, dating from 1790. The entrance is from the western part leading to the narthex.
    In the church is a precious iconostasis from the 18th century, having five rows, displayed on five levels. The main row contains the icons of St. Nicholas, Theotokos (Hodigitria), Christ the Teacher and St. Paraskeva. In the middle are the royal doors with six medallions, four Evangelists and the Annunciation. The second row contains the icons of the feasts with the icon of the Last (Mystical) Supper in the middle. The third row is so called apostolic, with Christ the High Priest in the middle. The fourth row of prophets is most difficult to decode. It consists of six medallions in the shape of unfinished circle with pairs of figures. The top of the iconostasis consists of three-barred crosses, with the Theotokos and St. John the Evangelist on the sides. The fifth row consists of the following icons: The Flight into Egypt, Sts. Peter and Paul, Divine Incarnation, and St. Paraskeva.
    The Greek Catholic church of St. Paraskeva was renovated in 1880 and 1932. The last renovation of the exterior took place in 2001 - 2002.
